Privacy Policy
On this page
This page says what this website collects, why we have it, how long it stays, and how to make us delete it. Every message sent through this site is read by the people who would run the work, not by a queue.
What the site collects
There are two kinds. One you hand over on purpose. The other is what any web server sees when a browser asks it for a page.
What you type into the form. The form on our contact page asks for a name, a work email, a phone number, a company, and an answer to one question: what does the site have to hold. The name, the work email and that answer are required. The phone number and the company are not, and a form sent without them still reaches us.
What arrives with the request. Your IP address, the browser and operating system your request reports, the page you were reading, and the page that sent you to it. That is the standard record a web server keeps. We do not join it to anything that names you.
Why we have it
- To answer you. A message with no way to reply to it is not a message.
- To tell a person from a script. Every submission is screened for automated traffic and rate limited by address, which is the only reason your IP address is read at all.
- To count how the site is used in aggregate: which pages get opened, how far down they get read, which links get pressed.
None of it is used to build a profile of you, and this site carries no advertising.
Cookies, and what we use instead
We do not use advertising cookies, and nothing on this site follows you onto another one.
Measurement here is first party and cookie free. It keeps one random value in your browser's own local storage. That value is not your name, not your email, and not readable by any other website. A session is worked out on our side from that value together with your IP address and the browser string your request already sends, and none of that is filed next to your contact details.
The platforms that host this site and screen it for automated traffic may set cookies of their own to keep it up and to tell a visitor from a bot. Those are the only cookies this site has any use for.
Who else sees it
Nobody buys it. We do not sell personal information and we do not hand it to advertisers.
Three kinds of company touch it, each because it runs part of this site for us.
- The firm that builds and operates the website. A form submission is delivered there before it reaches us.
- The hosting and bot screening platform the site runs on, which sees the request record described above.
- The email and business systems we use to read and answer what you send.
Beyond that we disclose information only where the law requires it.
How long it stays
A message stays for as long as the conversation it belongs to, and for as long as our own records require after that conversation ends. Request records are short lived and exist for security and for aggregate counting, not for looking back at one person.
If you need a firm number for your file, ask us. We will give you the one we actually run to.
Seeing it, correcting it, deleting it
Write to us through the contact page and say which one you want. We will tell you what we hold, give you a copy, fix it, or delete it. Depending on where you live you may have those rights by statute. You will not have to cite one to get them.
Security
What you send travels over an encrypted connection and lands in systems that need an account to open. That is not a guarantee, because nobody honest offers one. It is how the site is built.
Children
This is a business site about running critical facilities. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
When this page changes
Changes are made here. There is no second copy of this policy anywhere, and no version of it that says something different.
