Case study

Catapult™ day-one readiness

Operations had been treated as something that starts after construction ends. The result was a building handed over with no asset data, no work management system and no maintenance plan, and design decisions that were expensive to undo by the time an operator saw them.

What we walked into

Operations arrived after every decision had already been made.

Nothing here is a construction failure. Each handover was complete by the terms it was measured against. The terms never included whether anyone could run the building.

Handovers arrived incomplete

No asset data, no work management system, no maintenance plans. The documents closed the contract and left the operator to build the operation from nothing, in production.

Design oversights found too late

Access, maintainability and isolation problems discovered once the plant was installed, where the cheapest available fix is always more expensive than a drawing change would have been.

Warranty and asset tracking in disarray

No verified register meant no way to know what was covered, what was installed, or whether the tag on the equipment matched anything in a system.

What we did

Readiness built alongside the build, not after it.

The whole program is one idea applied four ways: every operational question gets asked while it is still cheap to answer.

  1. 01

Operational design review, while it is still drawings

Access, maintainability and isolation checked against the maintenance tasks the building will actually run, before the plant is installed. On this program that caught an average of more than a hundred and seventy issues per site, each one fixed on a page.

  2. 02

    Work management deployed during construction

The work management program stood up while the building was still being built, so the processes the operator will use on day one have been in place long enough to be real rather than being introduced at turnover.

  3. 03

EAM and CMMS aligned, with the register verified

Asset onboarding into an aligned EAM and CMMS, with every tag checked against what is physically installed. The register reached better than 95% verified accuracy before anybody was asked to raise a work order against it.

  4. 04

A maintenance-ready launch, with the parts on site

Maintenance plans and a spare parts strategy in place at go-live, so the first failure is a scheduled response rather than a procurement exercise.

What moved

A building that opened and started running.

Problems were removed while they were still cheap to fix, and the asset register was verified before the operating team ever needed it, which is why the building opened running instead of catching up.

170+issues

Hidden issues found and resolved per site before Day Two, on a hyperscale development program, averaged across sites rather than a single best case.
